Meet Emily Nina, our design intern and newest member of the flock. She’s been busy helping out around the nest, but we’ve finally gotten what we really want from her: the dirt on her life outside the coop.

Where are you from?
The little farm town of Snohomish, Washington. But I’m pretty sure that was an accident. I was probably supposed to be born in Greece or Paris or London or… anywhere without the smell of manure wafting through the valley all the time.

Where have you worked in the past and what did you do?
Before this, I was a barista and bagel artist (yes, it is an art), at a bakery, but I have also been doing freelance photography for some time. I just graduated after being the editor-in-chief of my school’s annual publication for two years, which was what got me started in design.

What do you love most about being a Design Intern?
Absorbing all the wisdom from my elder pigeons, having a real reason to be in Seattle all the time, and the amount of ice cream I’m consuming on a regular basis. Really though, I love learning everything from marketing strategies to web design processes from these creative geniuses, and I couldn’t be more stoked about all the skills I’m gaining by being here. It’s a big bad world out there for a little bird like me, and this nest is showing me how to take life by the beak and fly with it.

What’s your favorite food?
Hands down, farro and goat cheese salad at The Commons in the Woodinville wine district. Forever my favorite place. But, butternut squash ravioli is a close second. Which I only found out I liked when I accidentally got someone else’s order at a restaurant. So, just goes to show, if you get the wrong dish, you should try it.

What do you like to do on the weekends?
Read the ever-growing pile of books in my house, try new foods and see new bands. Right now I’m really enjoying watching my family learn how to Airdrop each other pictures from across the couch.

Favorite vacation you ever took and why?
I spent a summer volunteering in Fiji and while it wasn’t quite a vacation (mixing cement in one hundred degrees all day, anyone?), it was the greatest adventure of my life to date. We swam with manta rays, taught English to local kids, hiked to the highest point on the island, and helped rebuild a village after a cyclone. Not to mention the sunburn that sent me to bed for two days and left a red line across my back that is still there, over a year later.

If you could have a super power what would it be?
Probably the hardest question you could ever ask me, besides what my favorite song is. I would say to be able to identify any song immediately, but there’s already an app for that. So, teleportation…probably. That way I could travel without the crippling expense of airfare, see as many movies as I want, and do really dangerous and thrilling things without getting hurt. Unless I time it wrong. Then I’m toast.
